Audio and Video Conferencing
The Multimedia Services Unit of the Technology Services Centre configures, supports and manages all audio and video conferencing services on-campus. For details or to make a an audio/video conference booking, please contact Conference Services.
Audio Conferencing (Tele-Conferencing)
Tele-conferencing is used to connect multiple people from multiple locations over the telephone. At Lakehead University all of our boardrooms are equipped with hands-free conferencing equipment for larger groups. Alternatively, a conferencing telephone can be reserved and delivered to your smaller meeting room for local groups larger than three.
There are two types of audio conferences:
- Toll Based
- In Toll based configurations all remote participants will dial into a virtual audio-conference room (i.e. 1-807-555-5555) and enter a passcode to participate in the conference. These participants will be responsible for reconciling the connection or long distance fees associated with the call
- Toll-Free Based
- In Toll-Free Based configurations the client hosting the conference will be assigned a 1-800 number and a passcode. All participants will dial into a virtual audio-conference room (i.e. 1-800-555-5555), and enter the passcode to partake in the conference. In this scenario the conference host will be responsible to pay for all long distance charges for the incoming connections
Audio conferences are useful for Thesis Defenses, Faculty Meetings, or group meetings.
Video Conferencing and Streaming
The Multimedia Services Unit of the Technology Services Centre supports a variety of configurations including ISDN (using standard phone lines) and IP (internet) based Video Conferences.
Other features of their Video Conferencing capabilities include:
- Video and Content
- Real-time Web Streaming
- Archiving and Recording
Their hardware based solution has been implemented in many of our Technology Enabled Classrooms as well as our many boardrooms across our campuses in Orillia and Thunder Bay.
Video conferencing is useful for PhD Dissertations, Meetings, Special Events and Presentations.
